ASSIGNED TASKS

Please acknowledge and show up to tasks assigned by deployment. Failing to show up only puts strain on your colleagues who require the additional support. Not showing up to assigned tasks without a valid reason is not acceptable and subject to discipline.

This also applies to anyone on a shift trade as the company can reassign due to operational requirements pursuant to LOU 39 – AIRPORT – REASSIGNMENT (page 165) of the Unifor 2002/Air Canada Collective Agreement.

Working December 25th or January 1st?

A gentle reminder for anyone working December 25th or January 1st that in order to qualify for the C1 Holiday Passes the shift worked must be a full shift. Partial shifts will not be eligible to receive the C1 Holiday Passes. When picking up a shift be aware of the status of the shift you are picking up, on the flip side if you are giving your shift away and have split it, please communicate that with the other party so that they will know the shift does not qualify for the C1 Holiday pass.

Partial Shift Trades

Please familiarize yourselves with the following Article from our Collective Agreement regarding Partial Shift Trades. If you have any questions please contact the Union Office at (905) 676-2084 or send us an email at: info@yyzd301.com .

A few key points to remember : When picking up partials keep in mind that breaks will be scheduled where they fall for the original FULL shift. If the partial you have picked up does not include a break or lunch please reach out to deployment to confirm that the break has been given. Picking up multiple partials that run into each other creating a full shift do not necessarily make it that you become entitled for a break. (ie: 1 hr partials) Partials are to be seamless, meaning that no gap should exist between one employee leaving and the other arriving. If the partial you are working is the beginning of the shift you need to attend briefing, however, if you are working the end of a shift you do not attend briefing. Please be mindful of the rules for partial shift trades, as this is a privilege enjoyed by many.

W25 SHIFT IMPLEMENTATION ISSUES

I have been made aware of the challenges that you are all facing due to some of the changes implemented in this W25 Shift bid, specifically that the company is not following the collateral, and the reduction of staff in some locations is creating longer lines and affecting the quality of service we can provide. We have addressed the concerns brought forward by some members with the company and will be meeting with them next week to discuss further. In the meantime, if you have any questions or concerns, please reach out to us in the office at info@yyzd301.com. Send us detailed emails with dates, times and pictures.

URGENT REMINDERS

As your District 301 representatives we would like you, our members to please read and adhere to the following reminders:

It has come to our attention that Transport Canada is auditing our flights by way of testing whether or not we are performing our 3-point checks. It is imperative that we always match the customer to their identification and to the name on our screens. This does not only apply gate side, but also when checking in our customers we must ensure that we are checking in the correct person under the matching CPT.

Secondly, if you must for any reason leave your position outside your break times, or your task before completion, it is necessary to inform your manager or deployment prior to leaving so that your whereabouts are known and to prevent any further investigation or discipline that could arise.

Lastly, there still seems to be a high number of members using their personal electronic devices at work. We urge you all to please not use your devices while in view of the public. Earphones and AirPods are not to be worn at any time while on shift, this includes their use under religious head dress.

Thank you all for your cooperation moving forward.

SEPTEMBER 30th STAT DAY CREDIT

October 16th, 2025

There seems to have been an error from HR where they treated September 30th, Day of Truth and Reconciliation, just like any other statutory holiday. Everyone, whether GHO or non-GHO, should have been awarded the credit. Unless you gave a shift away, the person that picked up would get it. If you have been affected please email HR at people.employes@aircanada.ca to have the problem fixed.

Grievances

Please be advised that when grieving any form of discipline there is a strict 7 day time line in which the Union office must receive and file your grievance. It is very important that when you are submitting your grievance you submit all required documentation and explanations prior to the 7 days to ensure that 1) everything is submitted on time 2) if there are any questions they can be cleared up beforehand and 3) if any additional information is needed it can be requested in a timely manner.

The information you provide to us for the grievance is what is used to present your case to the company. Having this information ahead of time helps us to better understand your story and present the best case possible for you.

Ideally, get your grievance and supporting documentation to the Union as soon as possible, and do not wait until the last minute.

Once the deadline has passed you have accepted the discipline and we cannot proceed with the grievance process.

July 14th, 2025

On Friday July 4th, 2025, the company issued a bulletin advising that Absenteeism Status Reports would be issued to employees and that these reports would be non-punitive in nature. This was all done without your District 301 office being made aware from either Bargaining Representative or Company. We found out at the same time you all did. The company began generating these reports last week to any one with 10 or more sick days taken, although many questions remain unanswered. As these reports run from Jan 1st – present and are to align with the Canadian Labour Code, what does this mean for Air Canadaโ€™s punitive rolling calendar? We are working hard on finding out. Thank you for your continued support and patience.

FYIโ€ฆ

SHIFT BID SURVEYS

For the Winter 2025 bid the D301 office has initiated a shift bid survey to gain insight into input you may have for the shift bid. This is a generic survey for all FT and PT CES. This includes all Concierge and Leads. The idea is to understand what is most important to the membership when it comes to bidding: is it time, location or cycle? When bidding, where do our members want to work: gate side (Includes MLL and CSD), lobby side, CNX, CCT or  RLF?  Most importantly what cycles do our members want to see on the bid most? This will give some insight on where we can try to improve the bid package for the upcoming Winter 2025 Shift Bid.

SURVEYS OPEN: June 26th, 2025 @ 0900

SURVEYS CLOSE: July 2nd, 2025 @ 2359

RAIC

RAIC renewals are YOUR responsibility. Whether you are on leave or not YOU are responsible for reaching out to the resource team (aka The Bunker) to initiate renewal. If you let your RAIC expire you will then need to complete a Police Background Check in order to renew your RAIC. Failure to have a valid RAIC can result in disciplinary action including suspension.

FR Hours

Please be mindful that if you go over your FR hours the overage will then be coded as an AU. This is a culpable absence and will therefore have a negative impact on your attendance.

PARTIALS

When picking up partials keep in mind that breaks will be scheduled where they fall for the original FULL shift. Please be mindful of the rules for partial shift trades, as this is a privilege enjoyed by many.

CM SIGN-IN

Please ensure to keep your CM Sign-in up to date. If it has lapsed and you need to reset it please do so through the IT portal on Aeronet. It is your responsibility to ensure you are able to sign-in to CM and perform all work related duties such as acceptance.

RELIEF SCHEDULES

Relief schedules do not always follow a clear cycle pattern as the cycle may change from one cycle to another. However, if you notice that the pattern seems off, please contact the Union office and workforce planning.

PASSENGERS REQUIRING WHEELCHAIR ASSISTANCE

We are to assist ANY customer requesting wheelchair assistance. We are not to ask to verify the request on the boarding pass. Service MUST be provided on request. Assistance is NOT to be denied to anyone. If at the gate and in a GTAA wheelchair we MUST assist the customer to and from the aircraft. If at the gate in their own wheelchair  and family member or travelling companion wishes to assist the customer, as this is the customerโ€™s preference, then we MUST accompany the customer to ensure their safety. These are requirements that must be adhered to as Air Canada is liable under ATPDR and the Charter of Human Rights.

BINDER FOR BARGAINING SUGGESTIONS

There is a binder set up in the D301 office for suggestions that you may have for your bargaining committee as we approach negotiations. Please familiarize yourself with the current Collective Agreement in place.

REMINDER: BULLYING AND HARASSMENT IN THE WORKPLACE

June 9, 2025

The District 301 office would like to remind its members that bullying and harassment in the workplace is NOT okay, and can have serious consequences for all involved. We uphold the UNIFOR Harassment Policy as well as the Air Canada Code of Conduct. Chats via text, WhatsApp, Telegram and any other social media are considered an extension of the workplace, as is the Union Office, and are subject to the same rules outlined in the aforementioned documents. Unfortunately, a reminder that everyone is entitled to a workplace that is free from bullying and harassment is necessary. Examples of bullying and harassment include but are not limited to: rumors, gossip, speaking about someone’s age, sex, gender, religion, illness, disability, etc. Please be kind to one another as we do not know the extent of what someone may be going through.

Hello District 301,
We would like to thank you all for your patience during the delay of the Summer 2025 bid. We took some time to address concerns raised by many of you about the summer bid, and after a thorough review, the following adjustments have been made:
โ€ข Revalidation of Language Requirements: All language requirements have been reviewed and, where possible, reduced. This adjustment aims to decrease the number of language-specific bid lines, thereby increasing the availability of operational bid lines outside of language constraints.

Black History Month: Honoring the Journey to Freedom

Thousands of enslaved and free Black Americans risked the dangerous journey to Upper Canada (now Ontario) in the 19th century to escape the atrocities of slavery in the United States. Many found freedom through the Underground Railroad, a network of secret routes and safe houses established by people of various faiths and races committed to justice and equality. Canada, where slavery was not legal, became a sanctuary and a new beginning for many.

Throughout Black History Month, we invite you on a journey to explore the incredible Black activists, important monuments, churches, and settlements across Ontario. Stay tuned for both virtual and in-person events that will offer deeper insights into this rich history.

WHY DO WE CELEBRATE BLACK HISTORY MONTH IN FEBRUARY?
Black History Month is celebrated in February in recognition of two influential figures in the fight against slavery: Frederick Douglass (born February 14, 1818) and Abraham Lincoln (born February 12, 1809). These two leaders were honored by Black communities as early as the 19th century for their roles in the abolition of slavery. Additionally, on February 2, 1862, the District of Columbia abolished slavery, marking another significant milestone in the fight for freedom.

In 1914, Ernest Everett Just, a Black genetic biologist, was awarded the Spingarn Medalโ€”an annual award given by the NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) to recognize the achievements of African Americans.

In Canada, Black History Month was officially recognized in 1995, when Jean Augustine, the first Black woman elected to Parliament, introduced a motion to recognize the contributions of Black Canadians. The motion was passed unanimously, cementing February as a time to honor and reflect on Black history.

Clarification on Manulife benefits coverage

February 11, 2025

Recently the company issued a bulletin which has caused some confusion among our Unifor Local 2002 members.

The following bulletin is to clarify that there are no changes to our current benefit plan with the insurer.

Unfortunately, the companyโ€™s bulletin appears to have been issued to all Air Canada company employees. Unifor Mainline Air Canada members do not “select” or change benefits. Our benefit coverage is universal.

There are some additional insurance coverage(s) that are now available for purchase. The company bulletin provided a list of dates and cities for a road show for those wishing to attend in person. We recommend that prior to purchasing any additional insurance items, one should review their financial needs, and further review all options available in the marketplace.

Important!

Shift bid updates

For all agents who are on shift during their shift bid time, ITO Deployment has confirmed that each agent will be taken out of plan for 20 minutes.

The following bid lines will NOT require a gate qualification in order to be selected

-Corridor

-DOM/Arrival Customs

-CCT

If you did not submit a shift bid form, unfortunately the shift bid room will not be calling you for a bid submission. Air Canada will assign you a bid line once all of the CES that have submitted a form have bid. Air Canada will also email those agents after the assignment has taken place, so you will be advised what shift bid line you were assigned.

Good Luck on the shift bid!

Friday October 4th, 2024

Attention all CES!

Great News…earlier today the company has sent the W24 ITO bid packages to all CES AC emails.

Please log in to your AC email on Aeronet and familiarize yourself with the packages. Please submit the W24 ITO bid form online with your contact information and if you have any bid line preferences.

Please see the attached files as presented by Air Canada in your company email.

Attention all CES!

Great news! Please continue to observe your Air Canada email in the next 48 hours. The company has advised that the W24 winter shift bid package will be released 5 days early. This means we all should receive the package in our inbox some time during the afternoon of Friday October 4th, 2024. This is a gentle reminder that every CES is to fill out a YYZ ITO Shift Bid Form. There has been some feedback that the previous information provided regarding the shift bid form was confusing. Please take note that each CES will receive a link to the bid form in the W24 Winter bid package. Please ensure that you fill out the form with your contact information even if you would prefer not to include any shift choices. The contact information will enable the shift bid room to contact you at your designated time. If there is no form submitted, there will not be any contact info in order to place the call. Moving forward it is Air Canada’s intention to have future shift bids done as E-Bids (similar to Vacation E-Bid). If the bid was an E-Bid there would not be a need for any calls to the CES as the entire process would take place online. Hopefully the current bid form process will not be required in the future. If there are any additional questions please email the office or reach out by phone. Please see a sample of the W24 shift bid form below.

Hello all, please swing by the office and pick up your new 2025 calendar (if you are one of the agents that still uses a paper one ๐Ÿ˜)

September 18, 2024

Attention to all CES that are currently on leave and not actively working at Toronto Airport. If you previously missed the deadline in early August to provide supporting medical documentation regarding your return date, there is an extension to the submission deadline. Workforce Performance will be sending out emails to you this week with a new deadline of OCT 3, 2024. for medical document submission. Please note that this extension was due the delayed implementation of the W24 shift bid. Documentation supporting your return to work date must be submitted in order for you to take part in the upcoming W24 shift bid.

Unifor 2002: Bulletin

Questions & Answers: What to know in the event of a strike

This is a communication to all Unifor 2002 workers,

Unifor is closely monitoring ongoing negotiations between Air Canada and its pilot union โ€“ ALPA (Air Line Pilots Association). ALPA members are looking for fair compensation, improved benefits, and enhancements to current working conditions.

Earlier this year, ALPA members voted 98 percent in favour of strike action if a deal could not be reached with Air Canada. If the pending pilot strike does occur, it is certain to impact all of us in some capacity, even those of us not employed with Air Canada or with one of its affiliates.

Note: Air Canada Express (which includes operators Jazz Aviation and PAL Airlines) are not involved in current negotiations. These operations are scheduled to continue normally.

Here is a brief Question and Answer document in the event of pending strike action.

Question 1: What is strike action?

Strike, or job action, occurs if a contractual agreement cannot be reached between the negotiating parties. Strike action may include a range of possible measures, including overtime bans, work to rule, rotating strikes and full walkouts. None of these measures can legally be taken without a favourable strike vote.

Question 2: When can the strike begin?

If an agreement cannot be reached between the parties, and ALPA issues its 72-hour strike notice, the pilots may begin strike action as early as early as 12:01 a.m. on Wednesday, September 18.

Question 3: What is a Lock Out?

An employer may not wait for a union to strike. The employer can serve a 72-hour lockout notice and deny employees access to the workplace. The result is the same as a strike, only that the employer has removed the service of employees instead of the employees removing their services.

Question 4: Is the ALPA strike legal?

Yes. To date, ALPA has followed the legal and necessary steps – according to Federal Labour laws – to pursue strike action. The last step (if an agreement cannot be reached at the bargaining table) will be to provide 72-hours advance notice of their intent to strike. The right to strike and picket is part of our fundamental rights of expression and assembly in Canada. Striking workers have the right to picket their employerโ€™s premises and the premises of its allies or related companies.

Question 5: Do I cross a picket line to get to work?

Workers not involved on strike are contractually obligated to report to work at their regularly scheduled time. However, picket lines may cause substantial disruption and delays. At no point should any Unifor member be disciplined if they are delayed/late to shift due to actions beyond their control. It is the employerโ€™s responsibility to ensure your safe passage into the workplace. If you do not feel safe crossing a picket line, please contact your employer immediately.

REMEMBER:  Respect is a two-way street. We should respect our ALPA Sisters and Brothers in their right to strike. One day we may be in the same situation and will ask for their support.

Question 6: Can I support striking ALPA pilots?

You may support striking workers by asking if you can join their picket line when you are not scheduled to work. (You should not wear and/or display any of your employee-related clothing or attire.) Bringing refreshments and snacks is another way to show support and is usually very appreciated.

For those not familiar with picket lines, they can be very uncomfortable when you are forced to cross. People are naturally nervous and emotions can run high. However, an information picket should be a positive place and a chance for all workers to show solidarity for each other, even when some are compelled to work by law.

We will keep you updated as details become available.

In Solidarity,

Tammy Moore
President, Unifor Local 2002

Labour Disruption Message for YYZ

September 13, 2024

Message from Enzo Molino

We understand how stressful it has been for our customers and employees over the past few weeks, knowing a possible large-scale disruption is looming. As Air Canada continue talks with ALPA in hopes of reaching a deal, we felt it was important to try and address some of the circling concerns and questions should a strike occur, and what we are doing in preparation for the potential event.

Keep in mind that specific details will gradually be released as we move closer to the deadline. We still remain hopeful an agreement will be reached, however, knowing the potential impact of this work disruption and the effects it will have on our operation, taking care of our passengers and employees is our main focus.

Over the next few days, management calls are planned and as details are released, corporate communications will be issued outlining our plan of action based on the fluidity of the talks. Information will continue to be published in the Daily. Aeronet will be updated as the events unfold, and more information becomes available.

The YYZ Management team is fully committed to ensuring you all are prepared and supported. We understand that many have not experienced a labour disruption before and do not know what to expect. Such events can be emotionally challenging for both the passengers and employees and so it is important we continue to be kind and respectful to each other, and empathetic and compassionate towards our customers and their needs.

More details and instructions will be communicated in the days to come through local briefings and job aids.

Labour Disruption Message for Airports

September 13, 2024

Message from Tom Stevens
Vice President, Canadian Airports & Customer Experience Strategy

As you have seen and heard, we are continuing talks with ALPA in an attempt to reach a deal. However, given the scale of the potential disruption, we owe it to our customers to provide them with as many options as possible, which is why we have been actively communicating with them this week.

For an airline such as ours, it is imperative we have an orderly wind down of operations to ensure we are able to position our people and planes safely, as well as to safeguard the ramp-up of our operation. The date of this occurring is not yet confirmed but could be as early as Sunday, September 15. Please be assured that we will keep you fully informed as the situation develops.

For us in Canadian airports, I wanted to provide some information about what we would need to do in the event of a labour disruption occurring.

โ€ฆ

IN TERMINAL OPERATIONS

For our Customer Experience team, we will also need to continue supporting our Air Canada Express and PAL customers. As a result of the automatic rebooking of Air Canada mainline and Rouge customers, there will be customers travelling unusual routings as well as connections between Air Canada Express and OAL.

As you will have seen in our customer communications, we are doing all possible to encourage customers to self-service through our website, work with their travel agent and call our contact centre. We have asked customers not to come to the airport unless they have a confirmed booking, but we know that we will still see many customers coming to the airport looking for help.

In that case, I would like to remind you that you are fully empowered to do the right thing and use all tools at your disposal to try and get customers moving. If we are unable to do that, us displaying the utmost compassion, empathy and care for customers is going to be key. We will be setting up dedicated areas at each of our larger airports for disrupted customers to try and support these customers as best we can.

You can expect to see additional management support, including our back office teams, around our airports. Their primary focus is to support you during what is going to be a challenging period and to allow you to best serve our customers.

โ€”

Each of our airport leaders will communicate specific plans with you locally covering how we intend to run our operations and logistical arrangements such as employee parking.

I know that a labour disruption will be new to many of you, and it will be a highly emotive period for all Air Canada colleagues, as well as our customers. I would ask that we remain respectful of one another, stay away from rumour and speculation, and above all else, support each other at this challenging time. You have my commitment that as a management team, we will be doing the same, with our primary focus being on supporting all of you so that you can continue to support our operation and our customers in a safe and secure way.

Please look out for further corporate updates on the situation or visit the dedicated page on Aeronet for all the latest information. If we do end up in a disruption scenario, please be assured we will keep you updated with frequent communication.

Thank you in advance for your support and flexibility during this time.

Tom

Operational Reminders

August 13 2024

With the summer rush and increased demands from each one of us, we are seeing many things resurface that have required much of our attention.  As such, we’d like to remind you about some key aspects in our operations:

  • Be Respectful: We are all part of one family and everyone is working hard, so please respect each other and remember about the company’s Code of Conduct – please see our Sharepoint site for the internal link
  • Whether it is because we are respecting Canada’s official languages or because of the diversity in our workplace, please be inclusive in all public areas: Only English or French languages are permitted
  • Although we promote free speech, we also recognize that many will have strong personal beliefs about different subject areas, so please avoid discussing sensitive topics, such as politics and religion
  • We understand that operational challenges will demand more than we feel may be appropriate, however, please be respectful when communicating with others, including Management
  • With staggered shift times and changes in flight and task times, don’t forget that Briefings are Mandatory!  This may be a task on your PDA, but otherwise contain operational, regulatory, and safety updates that everyone needs to be aware of.
  • Late for work?  If you’re late within 9 minutes, please call Deployment; but if you’re late 10 minutes or more, you will need to call the Sick Line – telephone numbers are available on our internal Sharepoint site
  • This one is simple – please enjoy usage of our Lunch and Break rooms and refrain from eating at the Customer Service Desk!

Pay Equity: HR Memo

August 13, 2024

Human Resources have issued a memorandum in July 2024 on the Pay Equity process.  This can be found within HR Connex, under the Pay & Compensation section, Pay Equity. Altnertively, a copy of this memo is also available for your convenience on our internal Sharepoint site – please log in to view.

Please visit the Company intranet or the internal Union Sharepoint site to access the complete Style Guide.

Attention All Agents!

This is a reminder that it is against company policy to solicit or to accept tips from customers. This is a particular concern when dealing with passengers needing assistance. If agents are found accepting or soliciting for tips the employee may receive discipline up to termination.

THIS TASK IS NOT TO BE CONSIDERED A FILLER

All proceeds will go to the Unifor D301 social fund.โ€‚As previously mentioned this allows your Union to participate in all of the events that the members would like to hold in your union office.โ€‚A few examples of events that have been held here in the office are holiday celebrations and retirement.โ€‚Please be aware that in this initial Valentines day offering there will be a limit of 200 long stem roses available for purchase.โ€‚If this initiative is successful and there is positive feedback, your D301 office staff can look to do more of these events in the future.

Please see the below email from Enzo Molino (sent to each employee’s Air Canada email).โ€‚Please reach out to the Union office if you were sick following the consumption of the affected granola bars.
